When is the last time you played with playdough? It can be so relaxing and you can make so many creative things with it. This is my all-time favorite homemade playdough recipe!
It creates a very soft dough that will last up to 3 months when kept in an air-tight container. It requires using the stove - so YOU NEED TO WORK WITH AN ADULT TO MAKE THIS.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup salt
- 4 teaspoons cream of tartar
- 2 cups lukewarm water
- 2 Tablespoons of vegetable oil (or coconut oil)
- Food coloring (optional)
- Essential oil (optional)
- glitter (optional)
- Ziploc bags
Directions:
In a large pot, stir together the flour, salt and cream of tartar.
Add water and oil.
Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until the dough has thickened and begins to form into a ball.
Remove from heat and place the dough on the countertop (or on wax paper if concerned with staining countertop).
Allow to cool slightly and then knead until smooth.
If adding food coloring, scented oil or glitter, divide the dough into balls for how many portions you want. Place dough portions in ziploc bags. Add a few drops of food coloring/scented oil or glitter to each portion of dough and kneed it in the bag (to avoid straining your hands). Keep it in an air-tight bag/container when not using.
Enjoy your fresh playdough! Experiment with household and kitchen items like cookie cutters, rolling pins, forks, plastic knives, spoons, toothpicks to add texture to your creations.
